The first wooden building in St. Petersburg, built in 1703 and still surviving in its original form. The display features household items and memorial objects from the early 18th century.
The founder of St.Petersburg, Russian Tzar Peter the Great, lived in this house between 1703 and 1708 and the living room, the bedroom, and the study, filled with Peter's original belongings, still bear the mark of his presence. Peter the Great wanted all the houses of his new city to be built of stone, the way it was done in Europe. But he could not afford a stone house at the time, so he ordered the walls to be painted as if the house was made of bricks.
In the beginning of the 18 th centure, a a red brick pavilion was constructed around Peter's House to protect it from wind and rain.
The painting of the window-jambs and the early 18th century imitation brickwork, discovered in the course of restoration work in the 1970s, are incomparable. Open: Wed-Mon (except the last Monday of each month) 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Location: Petrovskaia Naberezhnaia, 6.
